Lot 1154: * A pair of Empire Style Mahogany Fauteuils
A pair of Empire Style Mahogany Fauteuils, these sumptuous armchairs, designated the Werner model, is a striking reproduction in the Empire style, directly inspired by the sculptural masterpieces of the Imperial court menuisier Jean-Jacques Werner (1791–1849). Meticulously constructed from solid mahogany, the frame provides a powerful, rectilinear profile that is opulently offset by hand-applied 24-carat gold leaf. The most defining features of this fauteuil are the magnificent console arms, which showcase large, open plant-scroll carvings heavily finished in 24-carat gold leaf to accentuate their sculptural depth and provide a regal lustre. The piece stands on straight front legs adorned with classical gilt-bronze palmette mounts, while the rear legs feature a subtle sabre curve for stability and grace. For peerless comfort and longevity, the chair is traditionally upholstered using a coil spring system and hand-stitched horsehair, covered in luxurious Davout semé – Tassinari & Chatel silk featuring a scattered rosette pattern that epitomises the formal grandeur of the Napoleonic Imperial taste. Based on the imposing scale of this ceremonial model, the approximate dimensions are: Height: 98 cm, Width: 68 cm, and Depth: 60 cm (38.5″ x 27″ x 23.5″)..
