Lot 1153: * Restauration Style Beechwood Chaise Longue (Méridienne) Dite 'Brifaudon'
Restauration Style Beechwood Chaise Longue (Méridienne) Dite ‘Brifaudon’ This elegant chaise longue, specifically a méridienne with its characteristically asymmetrical ends, is a beautiful reproduction executed in the Restauration style, which favoured a return to comfort and graceful, undulating curves following the severe linearity of the Empire period. The Dite ‘Brifaudon’ designation identifies a model inspired by the refined works of Pierre-Antoine Bellangé (1757–1827), the chief supplier to the restored Bourbon monarchy, who was celebrated for blending simple classical motifs with sophisticated S-curves. Meticulously constructed from solid beechwood, the frame is defined by graceful scrollwork at the head and foot, flowing into subtle, hand-carved S-curves. The ornamentation remains traditionally restrained, featuring a singular classical motif on the crest rail, allowing the architectural silhouette to remain the focal point. The piece stands on four turned and tapered legs, detailed with ring-turning at the upper sections—a hallmark of the refined domesticity of the 1820s and 1830s. Built for exceptional longevity, the méridienne is traditionally upholstered using leaf-fibre trimming over helical springs. It is covered in premium Lelièvre fabric This piece measures 88 cm in height, 160 cm in width, and 63 cm in depth (34″ x 62″ x 24″), embodying the understated luxury of the French Restoration.
