Regency Style Table Sabots is a sophisticated centerpiece that captures the transitional period of La Régence (1715–1723), an era named for the governance of Philippe II, Duke of Orléans, who served as Regent while King Louis XV was still a child. This historical interval marks a distinct stylistic bridge between the heavy, formal Baroque of the Grand Siècle and the light, exuberant Rococo. Handcrafted from solid cherry wood, the table features an expansive 140 cm circular top and a deep, scalloped apron with a rhythmic, undulating S-curve, reflecting the era’s significant political shift as social life moved from the rigid court of Versailles back to the intimate hôtels particuliers (townhouses) of Paris. The aesthetic evolution of this period is defined by the introduction of the cabriole leg and a softening of symmetry, moving toward organic curves that are masterfully executed here with high-relief foliate carvings at the knee. True to its name, the piece terminates in precision-carved scrolled feet—or sabots—featuring vertical ribbing and delicate volutes that protect the wood while adding a final decorative flourish. Drawing primary inspiration from the work of Charles Cressent, the preeminent ébéniste of the Regency period celebrated for his fluid integration of botanical carvings, this table stands at a height of 75 cm. By combining functional utility with refined transitional elegance, the Table Sabots serves as a definitive statement of the prestigious historical pedigree of early 18th-century French design.
