Pedestal Table Lachaire in Transition Style is an exceptional example of French cabinetmaking, embodying the stylistic shift between the curved elegance of Louis XV and the structured neoclassicism of Louis XVI. Taking its name from the Lachaire heritage model, the piece is distinguished by its practical and elegant integrated cupboard, which is accessible via a discreet door on the front, transforming the piece from a simple occasional table into a multi-functional work of art. Constructed from solid cherrywood, the frame provides a warm, fine-grained foundation for the exquisite marquetry and inlay work. The exterior is adorned with contrasting Rosewood and Violetwood, featuring a complex hand-cut starburst motif that radiates across the cupboard door and lower shelf, showcasing the artisanal precision required to achieve perfect symmetry through traditional veneer-cutting techniques. The table’s surface is uniquely versatile, featuring a royal marble top inset with two open steel pots. These basins allow the piece to serve multiple luxury functions, whether utilised as a sophisticated jardinière for indoor planting or as a rafraîchissoir to hold champagne on ice during a formal gathering. True to the Transition style, the table’s design balances a structured, rectilinear upper body with gracefully curved legs that terminate in a slight flare, reflecting a harmonious blend of 18th-century influences. Finished to an heirloom standard, this piece represents the technical mastery of the Parisian workshops during the 1770s. It measures 27 inches (71 cm) in height, 18 inches (46 cm) in width, and 17 inches (45 cm) in depth.
