Sold for: £60
A pair of decorative prints after watercolours by Joseph Mallord William Turner (1775–1851), England’s preeminent Romantic landscape painter. Each work captures Turner’s mastery of light, architecture, and atmosphere, reproduced in high-quality format and presented in gilt-accented frames with white mounts, suitable for suite dressing zones, corridors, or study walls. 1. Christ Church College, Oxford Depicts the iconic Tom Tower and gateway of Christ Church, with bustling foreground figures and architectural detail. Originally engraved by James Redaway for Turner’s Picturesque Views in England and Wales series (c.1832–1834), the composition blends urban vitality with historic grandeur.2. Carisbrooke Castle, Isle of Wight A romanticised view of the Norman fortress, showing horseback figures, goats, and a rainbow in the distance. Based on Turner’s 1828 watercolour, engraved by Charles Westwood, the scene evokes the sublime through its interplay of light, landscape, and medieval architecture. Framing: Decorative frames with black and gilt detailing; white mounts; glazed 50cm x 46cm each (framed) (Loc 631)
